Beta Epsilon donates 920 reams of paper to Batangas schools

The COVID-19 pandemic has indeed brought a significant impact on our society, particularly regarding the disruption of education systems. Reopening of schools has been a challenge, and reshaping education through restrictive distance learning has surely affected the general education practices. In hopes of bridging the gap and promoting the scholarship of young students, the Betans dedicated one of the events of UP Beta Epsilon’s 91st Anniversary month towards helping the educational sectors address one of its key challenges.

B.O.A.T. (Beer on a Table) Race, originally held annually on the campus, gathers the different engineering organizations as part of the Beta Epsilon’s month-long anniversary celebration. For the 91st year, due to the constraints of the ongoing pandemic, B.O.A.T Race was pivoted to focus on providing service for the benefit of several academic institutions. This aims to support young scholars in acquiring the essential resources that will help their education amidst the pandemic.

Last September 8 and 9, 2020, the UP Beta Epsilon Fraternity provided a total of 441,600 sheets (920 reams) of paper to four elementary schools in Agoncillo, Batangas. Through the leadership of Brother Alex Ibasco BE’78 and volunteerism of resident Brother Andrei Esteban BE’19, the papers were distributed to Banyaga Elementary School, Balangon Elementary School, Panhulan Elementary School, Panhulan Elementary School, and Pook Elementary School. These materials were mainly used in printing supplementary modules that were used by the students during their remote learning.

In January 2020, the said schools were also the beneficiary of a rehabilitation project initiated by the fraternity. Beta Epsilon supplied the cleaning equipment to assist them in the rehabilitation of their schools following the devastation brought by the Taal volcanic eruption.

Amidst the challenges faced by our nation, the Beta Epsilon remained committed to its aims of providing service for the benefit of our countrymen. Through these kinds of initiatives, the Beta Epsilon brothers are hopeful that no student would be left behind in pursuing their education during this unprecedented circumstance.
